Know before you go

The main animal is the Magellanic penguin, a burrow nester that is here roughly from October to March. Gentoos and other birds and seals can appear (check the season).
The walk starts at the car park and follows a marked path with viewing points; it is easy but exposed to wind.
Some areas beside the track are fenced or signposted from past mine clearance: never leave the marked path.
There is no shop, cafe or toilet at the site (check); use the Visitor Centre before you go.
Wind and cold matter more than rain: pack a hat, gloves and a windproof shell even in summer.
Book a taxi both ways; there is no public bus and mobile signal can be patchy.
