Berlin is a small central-Connecticut town of about 20,000 people on the Hartford Line, roughly 15 minutes by train from Hartford and 30 from New Haven. There is no town centre to walk: the Amtrak/CTrail station sits in Kensington, the shops and hotels line the Berlin Turnpike, and the rest is wooded suburb. It works as a cheap rail-adjacent bed and a base for the New Britain Museum of American Art, not as a destination in itself.

CTrail Hartford Line and Amtrak stop at Berlin station (51 Depot Road) for Hartford, New Haven and Springfield. Rideshare exists but waits can run 10–20 min in the evening; taxis are few.
