Glenbrook, New South WalesGlenbrook
Base in Glenbrook only if you want the national park entrance and a quiet village; most visitors pass through in half a day from Sydney or sleep in Katoomba.
Glenbrook is a village of about 5,000 people at the eastern edge of the Blue Mountains, a little over an hour by train from Sydney Central. It is the closest Blue Mountains settlement to Sydney and the gateway to the Glenbrook area of Blue Mountains National Park, with the Jellybean track, Jellybean Pool and Euroka Clearing. The village itself is small: a strip of cafés and shops around Ross Street, a station, and the highway. One night is enough for most travellers; a half-day works if you are already in the mountains. It suits walkers, families with a car, and anyone wanting park access without the Katoomba crowds.

- Oceania ↗Oceania's island states guard their farms and reefs at the border: tick 'yes' on the arrival card for any food, plant, animal product, soil or used outdoor gear, and let the officer decide.
- Oceania ↗Across the tropical South Pacific, cyclones are possible from November to April: choose insurance that covers weather delays and keep one spare night before a long-haul departure.
- Australia and New Zealand ↗Both countries drive on the left, with long distances between fuel stops in the outback and on New Zealand's back roads; fatigue causes more visitor crashes than speed.
- Australia ↗Almost every visitor needs a visa or an electronic authorisation (ETA or eVisitor, depending on passport) before boarding: apply only through the official Department of Home Affairs site or the official AustralianETA app, and check the rules for your passport.
- Australia ↗Declare all food, plant material, seeds, wood and animal products on your arrival declaration; undeclared items can bring on-the-spot fines or visa cancellation. When unsure, declare it.
- Australia ↗Drive on the left. An overseas licence in English (or with an official translation or International Driving Permit) is accepted for visitors; check the state rules and your rental contract.
- Australia ↗Swim between the red and yellow flags on patrolled beaches; rip currents cause most beach drownings.

Getting around
The village is walkable in about 10 minutes end to end. There is no useful local bus for visitors; the park entrance on Bruce Road is roughly a 20-minute walk from the station, and Euroka Clearing needs a car or a 4 km walk. Trains on the Blue Mountains Line run about every 30 minutes at peak and hourly off-peak.

Glenbrook village centre
Walkable to the station, cafés and the park entrance road; very few beds, so book ahead.
Emu Plains and Penrith
More hotels and motels, 10–20 min by train or car; use it if Glenbrook is full.
Springwood and Katoomba
Further up the mountains; better for a full Blue Mountains itinerary, worse for Glenbrook park access.

Watch out
Safety
- Bushfire risk is real in summer: check the NSW RFS and NPWS alerts before any walk.
- The park entrance gate has opening hours and a vehicle fee; check before you drive in.
- Jellybean Pool has no lifeguard and the creek can rise fast after rain.
- Trains are hourly off-peak; missing one costs you an hour.
