Ciamis
Give Ciamis one night as a stop between Bandung and Pangandaran, or skip it: the town itself is a 2–3 hour walk, not a destination.
Ciamis is a small Sundanese town on the Southern Java Route, 15 km east of Tasikmalaya and about 1.5 hours from Pangandaran. Its one real sight is the 1893 Cirahong bridge; the rest is a quiet alun-alun, cheap Sundanese food and a bed that costs less than Pangandaran's. Most travellers use it as a break in the Bandung–Pangandaran drive, not as a base.

The centre is walkable in 20–30 minutes end to end. Angkot minibuses run numbered routes across town; ojek motorcycle taxis cover everything else and are the fastest way to the Cirahong bridge or Cigembor. No ride-hailing certainty outside the centre: check the app before you rely on it.

- Traffic on the Nagreg pass between Bandung and Ciamis can add hours; never plan a same-day flight after the drive.
- Cirahong bridge is single-direction for cars: wait your turn, and do not stop on it for photos.
- Hotels fill on weekends and holidays with domestic tourists heading to Pangandaran: book ahead.
- Mount Sawal is a wildlife sanctuary (Javan leopard): go with a local guide, not alone.
