Orange Park
Skip as a base unless you have a reason to be here (NAS Jacksonville, family, cheap beds): 1 night, and only with a car.
Orange Park is a Jacksonville suburb of about 8,400 people on the west bank of the St. Johns River, 20–30 minutes by car from downtown Jacksonville. It has one historic house, a golf course, a community theatre and a handful of long-running diners and fish camps. Almost everything worth a traveller's day sits in Jacksonville, St. Augustine or Amelia Island, so treat Orange Park as a bed, not a destination.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Getting around
You need a car. US-17 runs north–south through town and I-295 crosses east–west over the St. Johns River toward Jacksonville. Clay County has no useful bus network for visitors; rideshares work but surge at commuter hours. Rental desks are on Blanding Blvd.

More motels and shops, longer drive to Jacksonville; cheaper rates, check the block before booking.
Astor Street riverfront
Club Continental and a few small stays on the St. Johns; quiet, no walkable dining.

Watch out
Safety
- Blanding Blvd is a strip-mall highway with heavy traffic and no sidewalk in stretches: drive, don't walk.
- Summer heat and humidity plus daily thunderstorms Jun–Sep; plan indoor stops midday.
- Hurricane season runs Jun–Nov, peak late Aug–Oct: check forecasts and evacuation zones before a coastal stay.
- Hotel rates spike when NAS Jacksonville has a graduation or exercise; book early or move to Jacksonville.
