- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.
Indiantown is a small Martin County town of roughly 6,000 people on State Road 710, founded as a Seminole trading post and rebuilt in the 1920s as a planned railroad town. Amtrak stopped serving it in the early 1970s; a CSX yard remains. There is one hotel inside the town limits and almost no traffic. Come for a quiet night, a country meal and the canal toward Lake Okeechobee — not for a resort stay.

Arrive & move

Getting around
A car is the practical choice: Warfield Boulevard (FL-710) is the spine of the town and county roads loop the outskirts. Martin County's local bus, nicknamed the Marty, runs a route around Warfield with stops at the post office, library and Boys and Girls Club — useful for a car-free day, not for reaching the coast.

Riverfront downtown, restaurants and the coast; the closest real town for an evening out.
Clewiston
cautionDoor to door: About 1 h 15 min
Drive southwest on FL-710 and US-27
Lake Okeechobee fishing town; only worth it if you are already circling the lake.

Drive northwest via US-98
Heartland town with a historic circle; a half-day, not a full one.
Lake Placid
overnightDoor to door: About 1 h 45 min
Drive northwest via US-98
Mural town; better as a night on a Heartland loop than a return trip.

Watch out
Safety
- No passenger rail: the nearest Amtrak station is West Palm Beach, and the nearest station to the town itself is Okeechobee.

- Summer heat and afternoon storms; plan outdoor time before noon.
- Cell coverage is fine in town but patchy in the wildlife areas — download maps before you go.
