Vidisha is a compact historic town in central Madhya Pradesh, about 60 km northeast of Bhopal. Its main attractions – the Heliodorus Pillar, Dashavatara Temple and Udayagiri Caves – are within walking distance, so a few hours suffice. Most travellers combine it with a day trip to nearby Sanchi; an overnight stay is optional for a slower itinerary.
