Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts is a Laurentians service town of about 10,000 people on Lac des Sables, 95 km north of Montréal by Autoroute 15. It is not a resort village like Mont-Tremblant: it is where the region shops, eats and rents a bed, with a beach, a rail-trail and ski hills within a 25-minute drive. Two nights suits lake-and-trail travellers; one night suits anyone breaking the drive north.

Getting around
The centre is walkable in 15–20 minutes end to end. Everything else — Mont Blanc, the ski centres, the highway strip — needs a car or a taxi; there is no local transit network worth planning around. Le Petit Train du Nord rail-trail starts in town and runs south toward Montréal and north toward Mont-Laurier.

Safety
- Winter driving: Route 117 and the local hills ice up; snow tires are required by law in Québec in winter.
- Many restaurants close one or two days a week and shut the kitchen early in low season: check hours the same day.
- Cell coverage is fine in town but patchy on back roads and trails.
- Black flies and mosquitoes are heavy in June near the lakes: bring repellent.
- Lake swimming is lifeguarded only in season at Tessier Beach; the water is cold even in August.
