Windsor is Connecticut's first English settlement, founded in 1633, and today a town of about 29,000 people on the Connecticut River just north of Hartford. Its draw is small and specific: a green with three centuries of houses around it, a vintage radio museum, a river trail, and a rail station on the Hartford Line. Most travellers see it in half a day between Hartford and Bradley airport, or use it as a quiet, cheaper bed near the airport.

Getting around
A car is the practical choice: sights sit 2–5 km apart along Route 159 and Day Hill Road, and buses are sparse. The Hartford Line (CTrail and Amtrak) stops at Windsor station, 41 Central Street, with roughly hourly service south to Hartford (about 10 min) and north to Windsor Locks and Springfield; Amtrak's Northeast Regional and Valley Flyer also call here a few times a day. From the station the green is a 10–15 min walk.
