  • North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
  • North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
  • North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
  • Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
  • Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
  • Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.

Peachland is a small Okanagan lake town of about 5,400 people, built into a south-facing mountainside above Okanagan Lake. It is a half-day of beach, a short waterfall walk and a zipline, plus a handful of places to eat. Most travellers pass through on Highway 97 or stop one night between Kelowna and Penticton; the town has no hospital and few beds, so plan around Kelowna for services.

Getting around

A car is the practical choice: Highway 97 runs through town and the Coquihalla connector (97C) starts here. BC Transit bus 22 links Peachland and West Kelowna several times daily, and route 70 runs Monday–Friday between Penticton and Kelowna with a Peachland stop (about 1 h 20 min end to end); from West Kelowna take route 97 into Kelowna. Taxis are limited; book ahead for early flights.

Watch out

Safety

Very low street crime; the real risks are highway driving, summer wildfire smoke and cold lake water. The nearest hospital is in Kelowna, 25 km north.
  • The nearest hospital is in Kelowna, about 25 km north; call 911 for emergencies.
  • Beach Avenue parking fills by mid-morning on summer weekends.
  • Highway 97 is the only through road: summer roadworks and weekend traffic add time.
  • Lake water is cold in June; the beach at Antler's is rocky, not sand.
  • Wildfire smoke can hit the valley in July–August: check air quality before booking outdoor plans.
