The town stretches several miles along US-2, so plan on a car: rent from Budget or call JJ's Lunar Taxi. Amtrak's Empire Builder stops at Havre station (235 Main St) with an unstaffed waiting room — no ticket machines or bag service, so print or store your ticket. Downtown is walkable once you park.

A small, quiet town and generally safe to walk by day. The real risks are winter driving on US-2 and US-87, long empty stretches between services, and wildlife on the road at dusk.
  • Distances are long: Great Falls is about 190 km (118 mi) south, the next real services are far in any direction.
  • Winter brings snow, ice and wind chill well below freezing; check road conditions before driving US-2 or US-87.
  • The buffalo jump tour is weather dependent and runs Memorial Day–Labor Day only.
  • Havre station is unstaffed: no ticketing machines, no luggage service, waiting room open noon–5PM.
  • Wild Horse border crossing into Canada is 70 km (43 mi) north and one of the quietest ports — check hours before you commit.
