Eksjö is a small Småland town of about 10,000 people whose northern half survived the 1856 fire and the railway bypass, leaving one of Sweden's best-preserved wooden town centres. The sights sit inside a 10-minute walk; the two real outings, Skurugata ravine and the moose park, are 13–14 km out and need a car or taxi. Most travellers see it in half a day, and sleep one night if they want the evening square to themselves.

The centre is flat and small: walk it. Buses and minor regional trains serve Eksjö Central Station, but Skurugata and the moose park have no useful bus, so plan a car, taxi or bike for those. Long-distance rail goes via Nässjö, 16 km west, then bus.

- Skurugata is a rough, rocky ravine path: wear shoes with grip and do not go in wet or icy conditions.
- Aschanska gården opens mainly on guided tours and takes cash only — check times before you build a day around it.
- Several museums and the moose park run summer-only hours; outside Jun–Aug expect closures.
- Rural roads are dark and moose cross at dawn and dusk: drive slowly, especially at night.
