Eksjö
Give Eksjö one night, or a half-day stop: the wooden Old Town is a 60–90 min walk, and the ravine at Skurugata needs a car.
Eksjö is a small Småland town of about 10,000 people whose northern half survived the 1856 fire and the railway bypass, leaving one of Sweden's best-preserved wooden town centres. The sights sit inside a 10-minute walk; the two real outings, Skurugata ravine and the moose park, are 13–14 km out and need a car or taxi. Most travellers see it in half a day, and sleep one night if they want the evening square to themselves.
