Los Mochis is an agricultural city of about 300,000 people in northern Sinaloa, on the coastal plain inland from Topolobampo. Almost every visitor is here for one reason: it is the western terminus of the El Chepe railway into Copper Canyon, and the closest airport and bus hub to the canyon's start. The city has a small historic centre, a good market and a winter baseball team, but no beach and few sights. Plan one night, ride the train, move on.

Getting around
Taxis are the main way to move; they are plentiful and cheap, and there is no metro or useful city bus network for visitors. The train station and the airport are both a short taxi ride from Centro. Renting a car is possible but driving in Sinaloa carries real risk; use taxis and buses instead.
