- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
- Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
- Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.

The Canadian Four Corners is a survey obelisk and tower at about 60°N 102°W, where Saskatchewan, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut meet. It has existed in this form since Nunavut was carved out of the Northwest Territories in April 1999. The site sits in marginal taiga between Kasba Lake to the north and Hasbala Lake to the south, hundreds of kilometres from any road or railway. Almost everyone who reaches it does so through one of two fishing lodges that fly guests in from Winnipeg or Saskatoon. This is a trip for people who want the quadripoint itself, not for a general sightseeing stop.

Why go
- Stand at the only place in Canada where two provinces and two territories meet, and photograph yourself in four jurisdictions at once.
- The surveyor's obelisk and survey tower are the physical markers of a boundary drawn when Nunavut was created in 1999.
- The flight in over the lakes and taiga is the trip for many visitors: no roads, no settlements, no other traffic.
- Fishing lodges on Kasba and Hasbala lakes combine the monument visit with lake fishing for northern pike and lake trout.

Time out
Finding the local time zone…
Times are local to the spot (zone loading). The half-hour margin is our rule of thumb, not an official figure; light fades earlier in forest or under cloud. Carry a headlamp on any route that could run late.
Accessibility
- The monument is reached by boat and a walk over uneven muskeg; there is no accessible route or boardwalk.
- Lodge facilities are reached by small aircraft, which generally cannot accommodate wheelchairs without special arrangement (check).
Visiting lightly
- Fly-in fishing lodges are the main economic reason this country is visited; follow lodge rules on catch limits and release.
- Pack out all waste, including fishing line and food scraps, from a landscape with no collection service.
- Keep to the lodge's established routes to the monument rather than cutting new paths through muskeg.
Questions people ask
How much does it cost to enter Four Corners?
There is no entrance fee: no gate, no ticket and no staffed entrance. The real cost is getting there. A five-day lodge package with flights, meals, boats and a guide runs about US$3,300 from Hasbala Lake Lodge or US$4,500 plus tax from Kasba Lake Lodge (2026 estimate). Flying to Lac Brochet and walking in costs less in cash but far more in time and risk.
What are the best hikes in Four Corners?
There are no marked trails. The usual walk is the short route from Hasbala Lake: about 2.5 km by boat across the lake, then several hundred metres through muskeg to the obelisk. From Kasba Lake it is roughly a kilometre from the shore. The only long route is the Manitoba approach from Lac Brochet, at least 200 km off-trail through forest, lakes and rivers, for expert wilderness travellers only.
When is the best time to visit Four Corners?
June to August, when the fishing lodges operate and fly guests in. June and July have the longest days but the worst mosquitoes; late August is drier and less buggy but lodges start closing. From October to May there is no lodge access at all, and freeze-up and break-up make travel impractical.
Can I drive to the Canadian Four Corners?
No. The nearest you can get by road is Points North Landing, 435 km north of La Ronge on gravel highways 102 and 905. From there it is a charter flight, a boat and a walk. The monument is hundreds of kilometres from any road or railway.
Is this the same as Four Corners in the United States?
No. The US Four Corners, where Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah meet, is a paved, ticketed monument with a large visitor area. The Canadian one is an unstaffed survey obelisk in remote taiga, reached by air and boat.
Do I need a park pass?
No. This is not a Parks Canada site, so a Discovery Pass or any national park pass does not apply. You do need a lodge or charter booking, arranged well in advance.
