The NWT is one territory, not a cluster of towns: 42,000 people spread over tundra and boreal forest, with Yellowknife holding most beds, flights and tours. Aurora season runs roughly late August to mid-April; the summer solstice weeks have no darkness at all, so no lights. Roads reach only part of the territory — Inuvik and the Mackenzie Delta are fly-in or a long Dempster Highway drive from Yukon.
