Takengon
Takengon is a 2-night stop for lake views and coffee, not a destination on its own. Go if you're crossing Sumatra's highlands; skip if you have fewer than 5 days in Aceh.
Takengon sits on the shore of Laut Tawar Lake in the Aceh highlands, known for its fish and coffee. The town is small and walkable, with a market and coffee shops. Most travellers use it as a break between Banda Aceh and Kutacane or Ketambe. Two nights let you see the lake and try the local coffee.
