Everett is a working port city 45 km north of Seattle, built around the Boeing assembly plant at Paine Field — the largest building in the world by interior volume. Downtown has a small, walkable core of theatres, a waterfront and a minor-league ballpark. Most travellers come for the Boeing tour, a Silvertips hockey game or the AquaSox, then move on. It works as a lower-cost base for the North Sound, but not as a substitute for Seattle.

Getting around

Everett Transit runs local buses; Community Transit covers the rest of Snohomish County. Everett Station is the hub for Amtrak Cascades, the Sounder commuter train to Seattle, Greyhound/FlixBus and regional buses. Downtown is walkable, but Paine Field and the mall strip need a bus, rideshare or car. Orca card works across all the agencies.

Watch out

Safety

Everett is a normal mid-size US city: violent crime is concentrated in a few blocks away from the tourist core, and the practical risks are wet roads, dark winter evenings and leaving bags in a parked car. Downtown Colby/Hewitt and the waterfront are fine on foot in daylight and early evening.
  • Boeing tour has a height minimum (122 cm / 4 ft) and no bags on the factory floor; lockers cost about $1.
  • Paine Field commercial flights are limited — check Alaska Airlines schedules before booking.
  • Winter is wet and dark early; the drive on I-5 through Everett backs up at rush hour.
  • Some downtown blocks are quiet at night; stick to Colby/Hewitt for evening food.
