Everett is a working port city 45 km north of Seattle, built around the Boeing assembly plant at Paine Field — the largest building in the world by interior volume. Downtown has a small, walkable core of theatres, a waterfront and a minor-league ballpark. Most travellers come for the Boeing tour, a Silvertips hockey game or the AquaSox, then move on. It works as a lower-cost base for the North Sound, but not as a substitute for Seattle.

Everett Transit runs local buses; Community Transit covers the rest of Snohomish County. Everett Station is the hub for Amtrak Cascades, the Sounder commuter train to Seattle, Greyhound/FlixBus and regional buses.
