Saint-Sévère
Go for half a day, not a night: lavender in late June–mid-July, the Gélinas vineyard and the 1855 church. Sleep in Louiseville or Yamachiche.
Saint-Sévère is a small farming parish on the St. Lawrence plain in the Maskinongé Region, about 1 h 25 min by car from Montréal. Two parallel country roads hold almost everything: an 1853–55 church, a lavender farm, a vineyard and a hand-weaving workshop. It is a stop on a Mauricie drive, not a base — there is no hotel in the village, so you sleep in a neighbouring town.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
- Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
- Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.

Watch out
Safety
- No hotel or motel in the village: book a bed in Louiseville, Yamachiche or Trois-Rivières before you drive out.
- Lavender bloom is short — usually late June to mid-July; outside it the fields are green, not purple.
- Farm shops and the vineyard keep seasonal hours; call or check the official site before making the drive.
- Country roads have no lighting and farm machinery uses them: avoid cycling or walking them after dark.
- Most businesses are cash-friendly but not all take cards; carry some Canadian cash.
