Louiseville is a small Mauricie town on the north shore of Lac Saint-Pierre, on the Chemin du Roy between Montréal and Trois-Rivières. Its draw is not the town itself but the lake: every spring and fall, hundreds of thousands of migratory birds land on Lac Saint-Pierre and the flooded fields around it. Add the heritage houses along avenue Saint-Laurent, the Pointe-à-Caron lookout and the October buckwheat pancake festival, and you have a half-day stop, not a destination.

Safety

Very low crime; the real risks are driving Route 138 in winter, deer and moose on rural roads at dusk, and cold water on Lac Saint-Pierre. 911 for emergencies, 811 for health advice.
  • Most sights are outdoor and free; there is no ticket office or visitor centre to fall back on.
  • The Pointe-à-Caron lookout can be unreachable when the lake level is high.
  • The Express Bleu shuttle runs a limited weekday timetable and requires booking: check before you rely on it.
  • Distances between the town, the lake shore and the campsite are too long to walk in bad weather.
