Akşehir is a small Konya-province town in the Lakes District, best known as the home of Nasreddin Hoca, the wise-fool figure of Anatolian tales. The sights sit in a walkable core: his tomb, two Ottoman-era mosques, a house museum and a 1921 headquarters museum. It is a stop between Konya and Afyon, not a destination in itself, and one night is enough.

Watch out

Safety

A quiet, low-crime town; the real issues are summer heat, uneven pavements and driving on the D300. Use 112 for anything urgent.
  • The old bus station by the railway station has closed; buses now use Yeni Otogar on the D300, 3.5 km from the centre.
  • The Stone Medressa Museum is often shut; the mosque beside it opens at prayer times.
  • Museum hours are limited and can change: check before you build a day around one.
  • Summer afternoons are hot and dry; do the walking circuit in the morning.
