St. George, Utah
Base here 2–3 nights for Zion and Snow Canyon, not as a Zion substitute: it is 45–60 min from the park gate and 1.5 h from Las Vegas.
St. George is a desert city of about 80,000 in Utah's southwest corner, on I-15 between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. It works as a lower-cost base for Zion National Park, Snow Canyon and the Red Cliffs reserve, with 300-plus sunny days a year, warm winters and a historic Mormon downtown. Most travellers give it 2–3 nights, or one night as a driving stop.
