Newberg sits at the north end of the Willamette Valley, about 45 minutes southwest of Portland on Highway 99W. It is a small town — roughly 22,000 people — with a compact old town of tasting rooms, bars and restaurants, and it works as the gateway to the Chehalem Valley wine country around Dundee and Carlton. Most visitors come for one or two nights, drive between wineries, and use it as a cheaper, quieter base than Portland for the wine route.

Getting around
A car is the practical choice: wineries are spread across rural roads with no useful transit. Old town itself is small enough to walk in 10–15 minutes end to end. Yamhill County Transit runs a route along Highway 99W between Tigard and McMinnville with a stop at Nap's Thriftway on E 1st, plus local shuttles, but it does not reach the vineyards.
