Use Fresno as a 1-night car stop for Yosemite or Sequoia, not a destination: the city itself fills half a day, the parks are 1.5–2 h away.
Fresno is the largest city in the San Joaquin Valley and the practical gateway to Yosemite, Sequoia and Kings Canyon. Almost everyone arrives by car on CA-99 and leaves within a day. The Underground Gardens, the zoo and a walkable downtown block are worth the stop; the rest of the city is strip malls and freeways.
