Long-distance buses link every town: Baoshan–Tengchong about 2–3 h (¥40), Baoshan–Mangshi about 4 h (¥50), Mangshi–Ruili about 2 h (¥30), Kunming–Baoshan about 6 h (¥150). The Dali–Ruili railway reaches Baoshan (Kunming–Baoshan about 4.5 h, second class around ¥250); the Baoshan–Ruili section is under construction, expected around end-2026, so check before relying on it. Driving gives the most freedom — the Baoshan–Tengchong–Ruili line is about 300 km and the full loop about 700 km — but you need a Chinese licence; foreign and international licences are not accepted. In towns, taxis and short-distance buses; expect no metro.
