Saint-Étienne-des-Grès is a parish municipality of about 4,200 people on the west bank of the Saint-Maurice River, between Trois-Rivières and Shawinigan, with three Highway 55 exits. It is a residential and farming place with one real sight — Parc nature La Gabelle and its hydroelectric station — plus campgrounds and a few roadside kitchens. Come for a half-day, not a holiday.

Getting around
A car is effectively required: sights, campgrounds and farm stands sit along rangs and Highway 55 exits with no useful local transit. The village is 20–30 min from Trois-Rivières and Shawinigan by car. Trains pass through the corridor but there is no practical station stop for the village; snowmobiles and ATVs use the regional trail network in winter.
