- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.
Bossier City faces Shreveport across the Red River and holds most of the region's casinos, plus a horse track and the Louisiana Boardwalk. Barksdale Air Force Base shapes the town, but its museum sits behind strict base security. Two nights covers the riverfront, the East Bank District and a day trip by car; without a car, treat it as one night bolted onto Shreveport.

Getting around
A car is the practical default: I-20, I-220 and Barksdale Boulevard link nearly everything, and attractions sit several miles apart. SPORTRAN buses run only three routes on this side of the river and miss many destinations, so plan a bus plus rideshare. Walking works only around the casinos, the Boardwalk and the East Bank District.

East Texas Street / Airline Drive
Chain hotels and the Pierre Bossier Mall; car needed, cheaper rooms, close to I-20.

Watch out
Safety
- Barksdale Global Power Museum is on an active base: non-US-military visitors need a background-check form sent at least 30 days ahead, and replies can take months — treat entry as uncertain.
- Casino floors are 21+ for gambling under Louisiana law; some venues also check ID at the door — carry ID and check each casino's admission rules.
- Summer heat and humidity are severe; plan indoor casino or mall time midday.
- Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1–November 30, with peak risk in this area August–October.
- Rideshare supply thins late at night away from the casinos.
