Northern Louisiana is the South, not Cajun country: pine hills, farmland, fried catfish and Baptist churches, with far more distance between towns than the southern half of the state. Shreveport-Bossier is the biggest base and the only one with real airport choice; Monroe is the second city and the gateway to the northeast lakes. Outside those two, expect small towns, Sunday closures and long drives — a car is not optional.
