YoungstownYoungstown, Ohio
Give Youngstown one full day plus a night: the steel museum and Mill Creek Park are the reason to come, and a car is needed for both.
Youngstown is a Mahoning Valley steel town of about 67,000 people, 1 h 15 min from Cleveland and 1 h from Pittsburgh by car. Its draw is industrial history, a free American-art museum and Mill Creek Park, one of the largest city parks in the country. Sights are spread out and buses are thin, so plan on driving.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Getting around
A car is the practical choice: downtown sights, Mill Creek Park and Boardman are 10–20 min apart and buses run infrequently. WRTA runs local buses from the downtown transit centre on West Federal Street, where Greyhound also stops. Downtown itself is walkable in 15–20 min end to end. Rideshare coverage is thin late at night.

Watch out
Safety
- Some blocks south and east of downtown have high property-crime rates; park in lit lots and don't walk back alone after dark.
- Buses stop early and run rarely on Sundays: check the last trip before you rely on WRTA.
- Winter ice and lake-effect snow can close I-80 and I-76 for hours; build slack into any drive between November and March.
- YNG has lost and regained routes repeatedly: confirm your flight is still operating before booking a hotel.
