Depok
Skip as a base. Use Depok for one day (Old Depok, Golden Dome Mosque) only if you are already in Greater Jakarta; sleep in Jakarta or Bogor.
Depok is a commuter city of about two million people just south of Jakarta, in the Jabodetabek metro area. It holds the University of Indonesia campus, a small colonial-era Christian quarter called Old Depok, and one large gold-domed mosque. There is no old town to wander and no beach: most travellers pass through on the Jakarta–Bogor line rather than stay. Treat it as a one-day add-on to a Greater Jakarta trip, not a destination.

Getting around
Commuter rail (KA Commuter Jabodetabek) is the reliable option: five stations in Depok on the Jakarta–Bogor line, roughly Rp3,000 from Jakarta and 25–70 min depending on where you start. Angkots (minibuses) run fixed routes with no timetable or fixed stops — raise a hand to board, shout "Kiri!" to get off; about Rp3,000 in the city. Grab and Gojek are plentiful; Blue Bird and Express taxis wait at malls and hotels. Jalan Margonda Raya is the bottleneck: avoid 07:00–09:00 and 16:00–19:00.

Jalan Margonda Raya
The main artery, with the malls, most hotels and the easiest Grab/Gojek pickup. Noisy and jammed at rush hour.
Near Pondok Cina / UI campus
Student cafés and cheaper food; walkable to the commuter station.
Old Depok (south)
Quiet colonial-era lanes around GPIB Immanuel church; very few places to sleep.
