Redang is a resort island about 45 km off Terengganu, with reefs close enough to snorkel from the beach. Almost all beds are resort-based and sold as packages with meals, boat transfers and snorkel trips, so you plan around one resort rather than a town. The season runs roughly March to October; outside it, ferry schedules are severely restricted and most resorts close.

Getting around

You mostly don't. Pasir Panjang is walkable, but there is no public transport and no water-taxi service between beaches: charter a boat or take the jungle trail north to Berjaya (30–40 min actual walking time) or south to Redang Kelong Resort. Resort packages usually include boat transfers and snorkel trips, which covers most movement.

Teluk Kelong / south coves

Safety

No unusual health risks; the real issues are sun, strong currents at some dive sites and the Nov–Feb shutdown. Solo women may get unwanted attention from resort staff; it is usually harmless but keep your own transport plans.
  • Resorts and ferries largely close Nov–Feb; confirm your dates before booking flights.
  • Marine park fee applies to all visitors (RM5).
  • Do not feed the monkeys; keep bags closed.
  • Tap water is salty and not drinkable; buy bottled water.
  • Reefs are fragile: keep fins off coral and don't stand on it.
  • Some dive sites further out have strong currents; go with a shop that checks conditions.
