Santo Amaro do MaranhãoSanto Amaro
Use Santo Amaro as a quieter base for Lençóis Maranhenses instead of Barreirinhas: 2–3 nights, or a day-trip from São Luís if you have a 4×4 transfer.
Santo Amaro do Maranhão is a small town on the edge of Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, 3–4 hours from São Luís. It has fewer services than Barreirinhas but gives faster access to the dune lagoons and a more relaxed pace. Most visitors stay 2–3 nights to do a full-day dune tour and walk to Queimada dos Britos or cross the park to Atins.
