Lindisfarne is a tidal island: the causeway floods for about five hours around high tide, so your whole visit is built around the crossing window. One day covers the priory, castle and village; one night buys you the island after the day-trippers leave. Cars stay at Chare End.

Park at Chare End and walk: the village, priory and harbour are within 15 minutes on foot, the castle about 25 minutes. The lane from the causeway has no sidewalk, so cyclists and walkers need care. No public transport on the island itself.

Safety
- The causeway is impassable from about two hours before to three hours after high tide; check the council's safe crossing times before you set off.
- If water is lapping the causeway, do not cross: the lowest section sits about 3.5 m below mean sea level and the tide can rise 5.5 m.
- Northeasterly winds push the sea higher than the tables show.
- Stranded vehicles are usually written off; the refuge hut on the causeway is not a plan.
- Castle and priory opening can shift with the tides; check the day before.
- Mobile signal is basic and there is no 5G; download your crossing times and map.
