Mars Hill is a small college town in the Blue Ridge Mountains, 20 minutes north of Asheville on I-26. It has a walkable main street, a few restaurants and bars, and the university campus. Most travellers use it as a budget base for exploring the North Carolina Mountains or as a stop on the way to Johnson City or Boone.
