Half a day is enough: see the Brihadeeswarar Temple, a UNESCO site, then leave. The village has nothing else.
Gangaikonda Cholapuram was the Chola capital for 250 years, but only the Shiva temple survives. The Brihadeeswarar Temple is one of the largest Dravidian temples in South India and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The rest of the city is gone. Most visitors come from Thanjavur or Ariyalur for a morning or afternoon, then move on.
