Changwon is South Korea's first planned city, a 1970s industrial capital of South Gyeongsang that absorbed Masan and Jinhae in 2010. It has no single headline sight: the draw is the Jinhae cherry blossom festival in early April, the Masan fish market, and a flat, bike-friendly centre. Most travellers pass through on the Busan–Jinju line, and that is usually the right call.

Getting around
City buses run normal (₩1,300 cash, ₩1,250 with a T-money card) and express (₩1,800 cash, ₩1,750 card) — check 2026 fares. Taxis start at ₩3,300, rising to ₩3,960 after midnight. The old Changwon grid has bike lanes on most major roads, and the city's Nubiza public bikes rent from kiosks near bus stops. KTX and Mugunghwa trains stop at Changwon, Changwonjungang and Masan stations.

Safety
- Changwon, Masan and Jinhae are one city administratively but 20–40 min apart by bus: check which district your hotel is in before booking.
- Summer is hot and humid with frequent tropical nights; the heaviest rain falls in July.
- The city rarely gets snow, so even a light fall can disrupt buses and traffic.
- Jinhae naval base areas open to the public only during the April festival; photographing military facilities is prohibited.
