Go only if Khmer Rouge history or the border crossing is your reason: one night, a half-day moto circuit, then move on.
Anlong Veng is a small crossroads town in Oddar Meanchey, 2 hours from Siem Reap on sealed Highway 67 and 13 km from the Choam–Chong Sa-Ngam border with Thailand. Its draw is late Khmer Rouge history: the graves and ruined houses of Pol Pot and Ta Mok, plus a man-made lake. The sites are spread over about 14 km of road and hill, so you need a moto driver, not a walking plan. Most travellers pass through in a night.

Getting around
The town itself is walkable. The Khmer Rouge sites are 7–14 km out on Highway 67 and hill tracks, so hire a moto-taxi for a half-day circuit (US$7–15) or pay per one-way hop (US$3–4). Drivers wait at the roundabout and at the border. Do not walk or cycle off the sealed road: this area still has landmines.
