Churchill is a town of about 870 people on Hudson Bay, reachable only by air or a two-day train. It is the main place to see wild polar bears in autumn and beluga whales in summer. Everything is expensive and capacity is tiny, so the trip is a booking problem first and a travel problem second.

Safety
- Never walk near the shore or the dump in bear season; call the bear patrol on +1 204-675-2327 if you see a bear in town.
- Hotels and tundra vehicles sell out months ahead in October and November and usually need full prepayment with no refund.
- Summer bugs are serious: bring DEET repellent, long sleeves and long trousers.
- Winter needs a real parka, insulated boots and goggles; cotton clothing is a bad idea.
- The train can be delayed for days by weather or track damage: keep a buffer before an international flight.
