Shédiac is a small Acadian seaside town 20 km east of Moncton, on the Northumberland Strait. It is a summer resort: Parlee Beach, warm shallow water, lobster, and a boardwalk-style strip on Main Street. Outside June–September it is a quiet residential town, so treat it as a warm-weather stop, not a year-round base. Most travellers come from Moncton for a day or sleep one or two nights near the beach.

Getting around

A car is the practical choice: the beach, the wharf and the town centre are 5–10 min apart and there is little local transit. Main Street itself is walkable and bikeable, but summer traffic is heavy. Moncton is 20 km west via Route 15.

Watch out

Safety

Shédiac is a safe small town; the real risks are summer traffic, sunburn and cold water on cloudy days. Keep valuables out of sight at the beach and lock your car.
  • Seasonal: many restaurants, cottages and attractions close from October to May.
  • Parlee Beach parking fills by mid-morning on hot weekends; arrive early or go on a weekday.
  • The water is warm but shallow and tidal; watch children on the long flats.
  • Summer traffic on Main Street and Route 133 is slow; allow extra time.
