Lanesborough is a town of about 3,100 people on Routes 7 and 8 in the Berkshires, just north of Pittsfield. Its pull is Mount Greylock State Reservation, the state's highest peak, plus Pontoosuc Lake and a paved rail trail. Lodging and diners line the highway; there is no nightlife and no walkable centre, so a car is the point.
