Piura
Give Piura one night for food and a Catacaos market run, or skip it and go straight to Máncora: the city has no beach and few sights.
Piura is the transport hub and eating capital of Peru's northern coast: hot, busy, low on sights, high on ceviche, seco de chabelo and chicha. Most travellers pass through on the way to Máncora, Los Órganos or Ecuador; a single night plus a Catacaos or Colán half-day is enough. It is a working city, not a resort, and the heat from December to April is serious.

The centre is walkable; taxis and mototaxis cover everything else for a few soles. Agree the fare before you get in. Buses to the beaches leave from the Grau and Sánchez Cerro area; long-distance buses use offices around Ovalo Bolognesi and the Panamericana.
