Chujado추자도

Skip unless you are a keen angler or want a quiet, off-grid island hike: one night is enough, and the ferry schedule from Jeju City or Mokpo decides your trip.

Chujado is a small island group halfway between Jeju and the mainland, administered by Jeju. The main islands of Hachuja and Sangchuja are connected by a bridge. Most visitors come for the 17.7 km Olle Trail or for fishing. Ferries are the only way in, and services are limited: plan around the timetable.

Rules in force · 5
  • East Asia ↗Every border in East Asia is a full international border, Hong Kong and Macau included: an entry permission for one never covers the next.
  • East Asia ↗Ferries between Korea, Japan and China cancel in rough seas and typhoons; keep a flight or a spare day behind every sea leg.
  • South Korea ↗Check K-ETA and visa status on the official sites before you fly; the list of nationalities exempted from registering online changes year by year.
  • South Korea ↗Google Maps gives poor walking and driving directions in Korea; use Naver Map or Kakao Map for routes.
  • South Korea ↗Buy a T-money card (or use a phone-based transit pass) for subway and buses; it also pays at convenience stores and many taxis.

Ferry Chujado → Jeju City, then ferry Jeju City → Udo (total about 3 h)

A long day with two ferry legs; better as a separate trip from Jeju City.

Watch out

Safety

Chujado is very safe. The main risks are the demanding Olle Trail in heat and the possibility of cancelled ferries in bad weather.
  • Ferry services are weather-dependent; check the forecast and book ahead in summer and winter.
  • The Olle Trail is considered demanding – bring water, sun protection and sturdy shoes.
  • Limited dining and shopping: the CU convenience store is the only chain store; restaurants are few.
