Tacámbaro is a small Michoacán town on the road between Morelia and Uruapan, named a Pueblo Mágico for its colonial centre and the crater lake at La Alberca. The sights are close together and the food is the reason locals come. One night covers it; a day trip from Morelia works if you have a car, because buses from Pátzcuaro run only about twice a day.

Safety
- Buses from Pátzcuaro run about twice a day: check the return time before you commit.
- La Alberca has no facilities, no lifeguard and no shade: bring water and shoes for a rough path.
- Some hotels lock the street door around 21:00: ask for the code or a key.
- Mountain roads are winding and unlit after dark; drive in daylight.
