Villa de Leyva is a whitewashed colonial town at about 2,140 m, 150 km north of Bogotá, with the largest cobbled plaza in Colombia and dry, sunny days that turn cold and windy after dark. Weekdays are calm; Friday to Sunday the town fills with Bogotá visitors and rates rise. Two nights covers the town, the fossil sites and one hill walk.

Getting around
The centre is flat and walkable: plaza to Casa Terracota is about 1.5 km, 20 min on foot. Taxis and tuk-tuks cover the outskirts and nearby sites. Buses and minibuses leave from the terminal on Carrera 9 for Tunja, Bogotá and the pottery villages.
