Villa de Leyva
Give it 2 nights midweek: the plaza and fossil country fill a full day, and weekends double room prices and crowd the square.
Villa de Leyva is a whitewashed colonial town at about 2,140 m, 150 km north of Bogotá, with the largest cobbled plaza in Colombia and dry, sunny days that turn cold and windy after dark. Weekdays are calm; Friday to Sunday the town fills with Bogotá visitors and rates rise. Two nights covers the town, the fossil sites and one hill walk.
