Yeghegnadzor is a small town on the M-2 highway between Yerevan and Goris, sitting at 1,194 m in a valley of the Gladzor River. It is not a sight in itself: it is the cheapest base for Noravank, Smbataberd, Selim Caravanserai and the Areni wine country. Two nights covers the core; a third adds caves or a canyon loop. Most travellers arrive by marshrutka from Yerevan in about 1.5–2 hours.

Getting around
The town is small enough to walk. For Noravank, Smbataberd, Yeghegis and Selim there is no useful public transport: hire a taxi or a car. Taxis wait at the Mikoyan Street (H47) junction with the main highway. Hitching on the single north–south highway is common and works.
