Sarandë is the southern coast's transport hub: a horseshoe bay facing Corfu, a promenade that fills every evening, and the fastest route to Butrint and Ksamil. The town itself is a half-day; the value is in what sits within 30 km of it. Come in June or September for warm sea without the August crush.

Getting around

The town is walkable end to end in about 25 min. The local bus to Ksamil and Butrint leaves from the roundabout behind the harbour, roughly hourly from 06:30 to 19:30 in season (100–200 lek; frequency and season vary — check). SH81 between Sarandë, Ksamil and Butrint jams badly at sunset in high season, so the bus is often no slower than a taxi.

Watch out

Safety

Sarandë is a low-crime resort town and the sea is the main risk: currents at the Ksamil channels, no lifeguards on some coves, and sunburn. Keep an eye on your bag on the packed promenade and in night buses.
  • SH81 traffic near Ksamil at sunset in July–August: allow double the time back.
  • Ferry and bus timetables thin out or stop outside summer — confirm at the port or a tourist info office.
  • Beach prices in Ksamil and along the promenade are not always posted; ask before you sit.
  • Some coastal roads and beach access points are closed by private construction gates; check locally before driving to a specific cove.
  • August accommodation sells out weeks ahead and prices jump; book early or shift to June or September.
