Sukabumi is a West Java hill city about 100 km south of Jakarta and 75 km west of Bandung, ringed by tea, coffee and rubber plantations and the northern edge of Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park. The city itself is a transport and market town; the reason to come is the mountain scenery, waterfalls and the road onward to the Indian Ocean coast. Most travellers use it for one night or as a lunch stop between Bogor and Pelabuhan Ratu.

Getting around
Angkot minivans run fixed routes with no timetable and no fixed stops: raise a hand to board, shout "Kiri!" to get off, Rp4,000–7,000 a ride (2026 estimate). Ojek (motorcycle taxi) and delman (horse carriage, mostly around Merdeka Square) fill the gaps. Plantations, waterfalls and the suspension bridge are easiest by car or scooter; the city centre is walkable.

Watch out
Safety
- Mountain roads are narrow and often unlit; avoid riding a scooter after dark.
- Traffic on the Jakarta–Cibadak corridor and around Cianjur can double your drive time on weekends and holidays.
- Alcohol is hard to find and drinking in public can get you arrested; hotels and some cafés are the exception.
- Waterfalls and trails can close after heavy rain; check locally before you set out.
- Nights in the hills are cold by Indonesian standards — bring a layer.
