Shaoshan is a small Hunan town, the birthplace of Mao Zedong. High‑speed rail from Changsha takes 25 min, and the visitor centre recommends 2.5 h to see the key attractions, making a day trip sufficient.

Use an eSIM with roaming (it routes through your home network) or install and test a VPN before you fly; VPN sites and app stores are hard to reach inside China, and only government-approved VPNs are officially permitted.
